Fields of interest: Michele Janette specializes in Vietnamese American literature and film. Her wider interests include contemporary American literature, Asian American literature, cultural studies, and feminism. Her articles include an analysis of the way the film Three Seasons encourages viewers to look in new ways at Vietnam; an exploration of the irony in Monkey Bridge as a guerilla tactic; and a consideration of significant ghosts in the novels of Toni Morrison and Maxine Hong Kingston. She received a Rockefeller Humanities Fellowship to support her current project: compiling and editing an anthology of Vietnamese American literature. The anthology presents works written in English between 1965 and 2006. She is a member of the Women's Studies and Ethnic Studies faculties, and was Director of the Program in Cultural Studies from 2001-2007. During the 2007-2008 school year, she is on sabbatical.   |
