The English Department assessed two sets of outcomes during the 2007-08 reporting period: a set of three outcomes relating to students' study of English and American literature in our 300-level Survey courses; and a Diversity outcome, assessed in a range of courses. This was the second year of a three-year period in which department faculty focused on the Survey courses and their associated outcomes; it was the first year in which faculty focused on the Diversity outcome. In connection with the assessment process, the Department has revised its Diversity outcome and established a new degree requirement, a Diversity Overlay. In connection with this Overlay, four new courses in Ethnic American literatures have been approved.
