How
to Bring Out the Better Side of Difficult People
Intended
Audience: Anyone who works with a challenging co-worker, client,
subordinate or boss.
Overview
When people at work engage in unpleasent behavior, our reactions are
often to avoid them, complain, or write them off. While these responses
may provide a momentary sense of satisfaction, none of them improve
the relationship. In contrast, we can begin to gain some insight into
the reasons for the behavior. We may never end up liking or approving
of the difficult person, but we can enhance our ability to work with
the person effectively.
This
program provides strategies for moving from impasse to insight with
difficult people on the job. It will be especially useful to you if
you are willing to take responsibility for your own growth and development...
regardless of your job or role in the university.
Learning
Objectives
You will have the opportunity to:
- Examine a difficult
work relationship
- Learn ways to
"get curious," rather than furious
- Plan a new approach
to a difficult person
- Select "experiments
in change" at work
