Developing Workplace Teams

This intensive, year-long program is designed to provide teams, consisting of 5 to 15 members, with the skills needed to work together toward a common vision.

Teams that are healthy and effective reaffirm all team members as respected individuals who matter and who make contributions to others. That consideration is sometimes neglected because of preoccupation with "getting the job done."

Developing Workplace Teams is an opportunity for team members to build healthier, stronger relationships with one another, to reaffirm their collective purpose, and to plan steps to improve team effectiveness.

Objectives for this team intervention may be custom designed to include the following:

  • Improving effectiveness of a group in which members must work together to achieve results.
  • Identifying problem areas of team behavior and corrective actions to be taken.
  • Developing a model of team effectiveness specifically designed to help the work unit.
  • Providing an opportunity for the group as a whole to analyze its functioning, performance, strengths, and weaknesses.

Objectives of a tailored team development program may also include the following:

  • Developing a mission-and-purpose statement for the work group.
  • Establishing roles and responsibilities for team members.
  • Developing a conflict-management procedure for the team.
  • Examining and improving the group's problem-solving strategies.
  • Improving the group's communication/listening skills.

This program is facilitated by Employee Relations and Training at minimal cost to the requesting department. Contact that office at 532-6818 for further information.
