Long
KSU Campus Walking Trail
Approximately 1.5 miles (7,534 feet)
Approximate
time
Complete one lap in 45-60 minutes
Route
Starting Point: Northwest corner of Student Union by the
crosswalk on 17th Street (KSU
Campus Map)
1) Begin trail by heading East along backside
(North side) of Union. (Note close to the start of the trail, you can
take stairs or use a ramp for added intensity according to physical comfort
level.)
2) Stay on the concrete sidewalk traveling
East along the North side of the Union until the sidewalk ends and runs
into a semi-circular road.
3) Crossing the road for a short section, get
back onto the sidewalk and follow that along the South side of Anderson
Hall.
4) Continue following the sidewalk as it curves
and runs parallel with Anderson Hall and travel along Mid-Campus Drive.
(Note: you will come to an intersection (3-way) which includes Mid-Campus
Dr, Oak Dr, and Lovers Lane.)
5) Using the crosswalk, travel East downhill
on Lovers Lane. The sidewalk is kind of bumpy at times, but still easy enough
to travel down.
6) Once you get to Manhattan Avenue, turn North
(left) on the sidewalk and continue North until coming upon Campus Creek
Road.
7) Arriving at Campus Creek Road, follow it
all the way back to Mid-Campus Drive. (Note: sidewalk is absent, but
the road is not heavily traveled and the speed limit is 20 mph, so safety
is not drastically lessened. However, an option would also be to walk on
the grass along the road instead of in the street.)
8) Campus Creek Road runs into Petticoat Lane
briefly where you will follow it for a short distance heading West until
it runs into Mid-Campus Drive.
9) Arriving at Mid-Campus Drive, go across
the crosswalk and head North along Mid-Campus Drive following along on the
sidewalk as it curves slightly to Claflin Road.
10) Once Claflin Road is reached, turn left
on Claflin heading somewhat Southwest along the sidewalk.
11) Following Claflin Road, you should reach
17th Street which is where the Military Science Hall is. Turn South onto
17th Street, taking you past Chalmers Hall and Ackert Hall following along
on the sidewalk. (Note: the pavement will eventually come to an end,
but continue following the sidewalk South. The pavement road for 17th Street
will eventally start back up again once you get to Rathbone Hall.)
12) Passing Rathbone Hall, you should run into
College Heights Road as it runs perpendicular to 17th Street. Cross College
Heights Road continuing on 17th Street.
13) Following 17th Street, you should come
back to the point where the trail began.
Suggestions
Wear comfortable shoes made for walking.
For intensity, walk to Memorial Stadium
and walk around the track
or participate in some stairs work.
