Graduate Program Directors
August 1, 2018 is the Graduate School's deadline for international applicants to be
considered for admission to a graduate program in spring 2019.
The Graduate School and other campus support units will host welcome and orientation
activities for new graduate students admitted to graduate programs for the summer
and fall 2018 terms during the week of August 13th. A schedule of sessions and activities is available on the Graduate School website, and an online
registration form is now available. Earlier this week, incoming graduate students
who have accepted their admission offer in CollegeNet were sent a direct email notifications
about orientation. To ensure that all students receive this information, graduate
programs are encouraged to promote graduate student orientation activities to their
new and current graduate students.
Graduate Students
Updates on International Student Health Insurance
- The waiver email will be sent on August 1. It will be sent to only those students
who are enrolled for fall semester. The waiver email will be sent at several intervals
throughout August, so international students who enroll after August 1 will still
receive the email. The deadline to submit the waiver is August 31.
- International students that have a GRA/GTA/GA can ignore the waiver email. There
is a different process for them to enroll in health insurance.
- International graduate student who do nothing and do not have a GTA/GRA/GA will be
automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and their KSIS
account will be charged accordingly. However, they will not receive an email from
United Healthcare to access their account until mid-September. If they need a health
insurance card before that or would like access to that account sooner, they should
click on the “enroll now” option when they receive the waiver email.
- The cost for the basic Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is $709 per semester.
The new Summary Brochure lists the costs for adding dependents
- For students who would like to purchase insurance other than United Healthcare plan
should review the new guidelines for having the waiver approved before purchasing any insurance.
Current graduate students who are continuing GTA, GRA, or GA appointments in fall
2018 are invited to attend this session to receive important information about the
Kansas Board of Regents health insurance plan, offered through UnitedHealthcare Student
Resources. This session will include information about the increase in premium rates
for the 2018-2019 year, resources for exploring other health insurance coverage options,
and information about requirements specific to international graduate students on
assistantship appointments. The session also will be made available via Zoom.
Note: Information about the KBOR health insurance plan also will be shared with incoming
graduate students at the GTA/GRA/GA orientation session on August 15.
Recipients of GSC travel awards for September are posted on the GSC travel awards website. August 1 is the deadline for graduate students to apply for GSC travel awards to
attend academic and professional events that begin anytime in October.
Graduate students planning to graduate in summer 2018 are encouraged to review graduation
information, especially the deadlines for graduation and ETDR submission. August 10 is the deadline to have all requirements completed for summer graduation.
