English Language Program

Placement Guidelines

Students who do not provide proof of English language proficiency with their application will take the English Proficiency Test (EPT) when they arrive at Kansas State University. EPT scores are used to place students into the right level of ELP classes or to demonstrate that they have English proficiency needed to begin university classes in a degree program.

Students who have submitted iBT (TOEFL) or IELTS scores and qualify for K-State Fast Start may be placed into ELP classes based on their TOEFL or IELTS scores without taking the EPT.

Students move through the ELP at different speeds and are placed into levels based on the guidelines described in the links on the left.

DAS 150 Fast Track is a special placement that is offered for students who qualify for Advanced English I (Exit Level) in three skill areas. These students will take three Advanced English I (DAS 15X) courses and one Intermediate English II (DAS 150) course.
