Undergraduate Research Assistants at KSU

Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF-REU)

I am currently looking for undergraduate research assistants to work part-time in the ecophys lab. If you are looking for an on-campus job (10-20 hours / week) with a flexible schedule and have an interest in biology / ecology, contact me for an interview. RA positions are an excellent way to build your resume and gain research experience if you have ambitions to attend graduate/medical school.

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs. The REU program provides educational opportunities for undergraduate students and also provides indirect funding for undergraduate students to participate in research.

Responsibilities: RA positions will include a mix of laboratory and field work in Bushnell and Ackert Halls, as well as the Konza Prairie Biological Station. Routine tasks will include assisting the laboratory manager of the Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (SIMSL), preparing samples for isotopic analysis, collecting grass and root samples on Konza, and routine maintenance and data collection at the mesocosms facility on Konza. You must be reliable, trustworthy, and have good attention to detail.

The Konza Prairie sponsors a 10-week summer REU program. This program allows undergraduate students to be involved in active tallgrass prairie research, to develop their own research project, a summer stipend, housing, and college credit. If you are interested in participating in the Konza Prairie REU program, you will find information related to this opportunity and the submission process here: http://www.k-state.edu/bsanderc/reu/

If you are interested in plant ecology or ecophysiology, and would like me to serve as your REU mentor, please email me and specify your interests and experience.
