Our research focuses on the physiological responses of plants to environmental variation and resource availability. Defining these relationships contributes to a greater understanding of ecosystem responses to our changing climate.

We use experimental and observational studies to examine the shifting roles of water and temperature as drivers of water-use patterns, gas exchange, water stress, and primary productivity in past, present, and future climates.

Konza Prairie is the keystone grassland site and one of the best ecological research sites in the United States.
The isotopic signature within individual tree-rings provides a record of the climate history experienced by the tree.
Kansas is a great place to study plant-environment interactions!
