Florence recently joined our faculty after successfully defending her dissertation in June, 2006. Florence graduated Summa Cum Laude from the honors program at The Ohio State University, where she earned the Edwin L. Smart Prize, awarded annually to the top economics student at OSU. At Berkeley, Florence was among 3 of the 26 students in her cohort to finish the Ph.D. program in accelerated fashion. In her first year at K-State, Florence will be teaching graduate and undergraduate classes in microeconomics. Her areas of specialization include labor economics, economics of education, applied microeconomics, and applied econometrics. Her recent research explores how immigrants impact test scores of natives, and the influence of parental involvement on student outcomes. Florence enjoys reading and has recently taken up fishing.
