Kansas State University Graduate Program in Economics

Thank you for your interest in the graduate program in economics at Kansas State University.

We offer MA and PhD degrees in economics. We specialize in six areas: econometrics, international economics, industrial organization, labor economics, macroeconomics, and public finance. If you have interests in one or more of these areas, we may be the right program for you. You can view a list of the graduate courses we offer here. Information on recent placements of our graduates can be found here.

Hopefully the information that follows will answer any questions you have about our program. If not, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Graduate Studies.

Application Deadlines. We accept applications for both semesters. The deadline for fall enrollment is January 8. The deadline for spring enrollment is August 1.

Expected Background. To be competitive for admission to the MA or PhD programs, applicants typically need to have strong backgrounds in math (including calculus) and statistics. In addition, competitive applicants typically have training in undergraduate economics courses, a grade point average (GPA) above 3.5, and a quantitative score on the GRE above the 75th percentile.

Admissions Process. We have an admissions committee that reviews all completed applications and considers all parts of the application when making its decisions. No single component of the application will guarantee admission or rejection. It is not possible to send information to the Director of Graduate Studies to get an assessment of the likelihood of admission or funding.

TOEFL. International applicants are advised to take the TOEFL as early as possible to avoid delays in the processing of their applications for admission. An applicant who has received a degree in the last two years from a United States college or university is exempt from this requirement.

English proficiency requirements are set by the Graduate School. Detailed information can be found on this page.

Application Process. If you choose to apply, you will be required to do so on the Graduate School website. Before starting the application process, you are strongly encouraged to read through the Frequently Asked Questions page. That page should answer most of the questions that will arise during your application process.

Once again, we thank you for considering our graduate program. Please spend some time on our website to see what we have to offer.
