After defending her dissertation in 2006, Florence is now completing her second year at K-State. Florence graduated Summa Cum Laude from the honors program at The Ohio State University, where she earned the Edwin L. Smart Prize, awarded annually to the top economics student at OSU. At Berkeley, Florence was among 3 of the 26 students in her cohort to finish the Ph.D. program in accelerated fashion.

Florence is responsible for teaching the first semester of graduate level microeconomic theory (which had record enrollment levels this past year), as well as teaching courses in intermediate microeconomics and labor economics.

Florence has also been leading an applied microeconomics discussion group for students in the spring semester of their first year. This group, which Florence started, allows students a chance to discuss and critique interesting and current research in a variety of fields of microeconomics at the beginning of their graduate school careers. Florence has also been an active member of the various committees in the economics department including the seminar committee, the dissertation workshop committee, the trenary chair search committee, and the committee to evaluate students completing their first year of graduate school.

Florence has several papers underway and under review at noted journals, dealing with such issues as the effect of immigration on educational outcomes of natives, and the link between self-esteem and student outcomes. Florence enjoys reading, and has recently taken up photography. She is becoming a loyal K-State sports fan.
