Mission Trips
Mission Trip March 2006

Eleven students and David Jones,
Campus Pastor went on a week-long mission trip to Port Arthur, Texas.
The students just recently got back from the Spring Break Mission Trip to Port Arthur , Texas
. In addition to installing dry wall
in two different homes, they helped build houses with the Habitat for
Humanity. They were able to raise
over $6,000.00 by hosting Potato Bars at four local churches, contacting
their home churches and submitting a request to student government
organization for a grant.They were
very thankful and proud of what they were able to accomplish while in Port Arthur.

Mission
Trip 2005
Perspective by Kylie Zibell
Oftentimes people hear the words
"mission trip" and think of going to some far away country to
assist those in need. This past spring break a group of K-State
students affiliated with ECM, myself included, had the opportunity to
participate in mission work. However, we did not have to go out of the
country to do this. Instead, we set off to Nashville and worked with Catholic
Charities of Tennessee. It was an amazing experience to say the least,
and I believe we were able to help and touch the lives of several
people. In doing so, we were all touched in return.
Some of our work involved cooking
and serving lunch to 135 homeless people, shearing dogs (which no one knew
how to do), cleaning for the elderly, tutoring refugee children from Somalia
(my favorite), delivering food boxes and much more. Among all our
helping we were also able to squeeze in a little fun time which included
watching the musical "GodSpell", seeing Vince Gill at the Bluebird
Cafe, attending a Southern Baptist church, and eating at some marvelous
restaurants.
The saying "there are two
sides to life" is very true. While in Tennessee we were able to experience this
first hand. The neighborhood and parsonage we were fortunate enough to
stay in was unbelievable. The church was gorgeous and the grocery store
had valet parking. But, upon entering the parts of town in which we did
our volunteer work, we saw how very different and difficult life can be.
As with any group of people who
are together for a length of time, we did have obstacles we faced and overcame,
but overall I feel that everyone would agree it was a wonderful experience
and we are looking forward to next year.
