Michael Ratner

Michael Ratner is President of the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York. He and his office represent the Guantánamo detainees in Rasul v. Bush, the historic U.S. Supreme Court case decided this summer, affirming the right of every person, citizen or non-citizen, detained by the United States to test the legality of his or her detention in a U.S. Court. Under Michael's leadership, the CCR has aggressively challenged actions by the United States in the wake of 9/11 that increasingly restrict civil liberties under the unfolding terms of a permanent war. He has recently co-authored the book Guantánamo: What the World Should Know, a primer on the dangers that U.S. policy in Guantánamo presents to our democracy.
