Sign Language Interpreters

DSS currently employs four full-time Sign Language Interpreters. Please request interpreters as soon as possible; interpreters will be assigned a set schedule at the beginning of the semester. Request forms are available in the DSS office.

Students should contact the DSS office (contact information at left) to request an interpreter. Students should register with DSS prior to requesting accommodations.

Unless an interpreter is ill, a student can expect to see the same person for each class session.

Requesting Interpreters for Non-Class Activities

A student may request that an interpreter accompany him to meetings with instructors or to University-related events such as lectures and dramatic productions. A 3-day notice is required when requesting an interpreter for events external to regularly scheduled courses.

Working with Faculty

DSS offers a set of guidelines for faculty working with sign language interpreters. Students may wish to review this documentation as well.
