Shuttle Service

DSS / aTa Shuttle Service

The Disability Support Services (DSS) / aTa Shuttle Service is provided as a courtesy by the University for students with either a temporary injury or a permanent disability, to assist them in getting to their classes. DSS has partnered with aTa Bus transportation to provide a services to students on and off campus in the Manhattan area.

The shuttle operates during the day only, Monday through Friday, when classes are in session. The first available ride time is 7:00 a.m., last pick-up is 4:30 p.m. DSS cannot guarantee personal choice in pick-up and arrival times, though we will do our best to meet your needs.

Riders must complete a Ride Schedule Form listing regularly scheduled rides. You can drop by DSS in 202 Holton Hall to pick up an application and speak with a staff member about the service. This usually takes 15 minutes. We will help you create a schedule and we can often start your shuttle rides the next day. If you cannot come to our office please call (785)532-6441. DSS cannot guarantee personal choice in pick-up and arrival times, though we will do our best to meet your needs.

To make any temporary changes or cancellations to your schedule, call (785)537-6345 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday (leave voice mail if necessary). The aTa Bus requires 24 hour advance notice to schedule rides. They require at least 1 hour before a scheduled ride may be cancelled without the rider being charged a fine. The rider will incur a fine of $5 for not canceling a ride in a timely manner.

Is there transportation for students who wish to go to places other than to class or home?

Area Transportation Agency: The ATA Bus provides transportation for anyone in the Manhattan area at the cost of $2 per trip.

Taxi Coupon Program: The City of Manhattan has a taxi coupon program available to provide safe, economical and dependable taxi service for people with disabilities and senior citizens with low incomes.
