In some instances it may be helpful for a student to record an instructor's lecture using a small, handheld audio recorder -- either analog (tape) or digital. The student's Accommodation Letter will make this recommendation to the instructor. Some instructors may ask for restrictions on how the student uses the recordings.
Some instructors will allow students to record lectures without an accommodation letter or registration with DSS if the student discusses their need with the instructor.
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should a student record an instructor without the instructor's express consent. When in doubt, ask.
Students should register with DSS prior to requesting accommodations.
