Arranging Accommodations for For-Credit DCE Courses

DCE offers a variety of for-credit course types at various locations. Visit http://www.dce.ksu.edu/ for more information.

Evening College and Intersession Courses

Evening College refers to a set of courses located on or near the K-State campus that are offered for-credit. Intersession courses are offered in between regular semesters (hence inter-session) in May, August, and December. Students with disabilities enrolled in Evening College or Intersession courses are generally known to the DSS office and will continue to receive accommodations directly through the office. Students should request and pick up accommodation letters at the DSS office.

Distance (Online) Courses

If a student is enrolled in a distance course, the course meets wholly online or is conducted completely or in part through TELENET2 or audio/visual teleconferencing. Students may be distant or local. Regardless of physical location, if a student enrolls in a distance course she should contact the Adaptive Technology Specialist at DSS (information to the left).

Contacting DSS upon enrollment in the course means that accommodations can be arranged in a timely manner. Depending on the nature of the disability and the technology used in the course, course materials may require modification.

Distant students should follow this procedure:

  1. Fill out and submit the online application form.
  2. Send a copy of appropriate documentation by USPS or FAX as soon as possible. For more information on documentation requirements, see our Documentation Guidelines page.
    • A specialist will review your documentation soon after it is received. You will be notified if your documentation meets requirements or if we need more information prior to providing academic accommodations.
  3. Once your documentation has been approved, complete and submit a Request for Accommodation Letters form.
    • Upon receipt of the Request, DSS will generate letters to your instructors. These letters explain that you have a documented disability and outline what accommodations are considered appropriate. See Accommodation Letters for more information.
  4. Contact your instructor to discuss arranging accommodations. It is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor; the instructor can only provide accommodations after the student makes contact.

  5. K-State instructors are excellent and willing to work with students with disabilities. However, in the event that a student encounters difficulty arranging accommodations, do not hesitate to contact DSS.
