What is the Integated Information Initiative?

The vision of the Integrated Information Initiative is to empower users by organizing and integrating all digital information into what appears to be one system. This effort will require excellent data management, capture of the meaning of data and integration of different types of data. Fundamental to data management is the organization and interchange of data, along with secure access to that data to ensure flexibility, integrity, affordability and capability for growth.

The transition to an integrated enterprise will be complex, but the benefits will be enormous and allow us to increase the level of service and range of problems that can be approached. This transition will include:

  1. The creation of an enterprise-wide data model to use as the primary descriptor for all data sources
  2. Identification of data sources and creation of semantic and syntactic information for those sources
  3. Storage of the data and meta-data in an open systems environment
  4. Management and use of this information with standardized tools to support
         a. Search & discovery
         b. Research & analysis
         c. Data mining

What is EPM?

Enterprise project management (EPM) is a structured approach to planning for and working through projects that provides information to facilitate informed decision making. EPM provides a mechanism for the measurement and analysis of a consistent set of variables such as resource utilization, project costs, and capital investments across projects. Please see the EPM project website.
