Planned Giving is an interrelated department within the KSU Foundation that utilizes a solutions approach to secure gifts for Kansas State University.
As an interrelated department, the Planned Giving staff works closely with all areas of fund raising, accounting and real estate to coordinate and facilitate gifts to the Foundation for the benefit of Kansas State University.
The Planned Giving staff employs an attitude of finding creative ways to utilize and enhance the opportunities available for donors to meet their philanthropic desires, and also to meet personal financial goals. The Planned Giving staff method is to review with the donors their needs and objectives and work to find the right combination of gift techniques to meet both of these. Some of the common techniques used to meet these goals include charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, charitable lead trusts, life estates, bequests and life insurance.
In addition to working directly with donors to find these solutions, staff members often interact with legal and tax advisors, appraisers, trust officers, financial planners, executors and others. This activity drives an enormous demand for the staff's services. While it is always preferable to have contact with the donor, many gifts are arranged directly through the donor's advisors.
Various marketing programs are implemented to create opportunities for the Foundation. The Planned Giving Department staff produces Planning For Tomorrow newsletter, an array of planned giving brochures, and conducts prospect and advisor seminars. Other innovative marketing programs, such as interactive CD-ROMs are being explored to provide a direct link between the KSU Foundation and donors and their advisors. The goal is for the Department's staff to be a valuable resource to the donors and advisors regarding charitable gift planning information.
Another new program is the KSU Land-Grant Society. This society recognizes donors who have developed an estate plan or other deferred gift arrangement to benefit Kansas State University.
