About the Wildcat Debate Workshop
The Wildcat Debate Workshop (WDW) at Kansas State University is a summer debate institute for new and experienced policy debaters and coaches. Students who attend the WDW will be trained in argument theory, how to enhance their research skills, become more articulate speakers and master prominent debate arguments. Coaches will learn how to teach argument theory, research, and offer a wide variety of curricular materials with still plenty of time to enjoy Manhattan.
The Workshop will feature debate around the 2009-2010 National Forensic League Policy Debate Topic:
Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase social services for persons living in poverty in the United States.
Why attend the Wildcat Debate Workshop?
1 - Quality, focused Faculty. They will be clear-headed bright and early in the morning ready to work with you. Our faculty are genuinely interested in helping debaters get better.
2 - Our track-record speaks for itself. Two of the top three speakers at NFL nationals in 2008 are WDW alumns. The only three debaters in Kansas who received speaker awards were WDW alumns. 2/3s of our attendees from 2008 broke at their state tournament. All four members of the 5A and 6A state champions attended the WDW.
3 - Plentiful Practice - Our pre-institute evidence set will include an Affirmative, case negative, a disad, a counterplan and a kritik. Debates begin on the first day. Rebuttal redoes will happen every subsequent day there-after. A tournament will happen each weekend.
4 - Quality Evidence - Debaters are given direction and oversight while cutting quality evidence. All evidence is electronically produced making writing blocks and integrating files much easier to start the season.
5 - Adjustments for your local circuits - If you don't talk fast at home, then you will practice going slow. If you usually go for stock issues or even a kritik, you will have an opportunity to practice what you do.

We offer a discount to schools that send three or more as well as a $50 partner discount. Make sure to note this when you register. If you don't have a partner or a teammate, don't worry, the majority of our attendees do not show up with a partner and there are plenty of quality debaters here for you to debate with.
