USA Cycling Officials Clinic Offered

NCCCC Director Larry Martin will be holding an official's clinic in Manhattan on April 5th to begin at 5:30pm in Frick Auditorium which is located in Mosier Hall at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine Complex. Attendance is free and open to anyone interested in becoming a licensed USA Cycling Official. The clinic is scheduled to last until 10:00pm. Upon completion of the course, attendees can obtain an entry level USA Cycling official's license by paying the $35 licensure fee which is valid for the remainder of 2008 and renewable each year through the USA Cycling official website. Currently the state of Kansas is experiencing a shortage of licensed officials limiting the number of races that can be held on a given weekend. If you will be attending the April 5th clinic please send an email to Larry Martin by Thursday, April 3rd to ensure there will be enough course materials available. [Directions]

Wildcats set to open 2008 Road Season

Kansas State University Cycling will start the 2008 collegiate cycling season off at home this Saturday. A road race will be held in Olsburg, KS Saturday morning followed by a team time trial in the afternoon on Zeandale Road east of Manhattan. Sunday morning races begin at 9:00 a.m. in what will likely be a fast paced criterium in "Aggieville" just blocks from the KSU main campus. Spectators are welcomed and can view the races at any point along the race routes. [Flyer]

KSU Cycling Club Helps Blaze Trail

asdfThe club had five members head out to St. George, Kansas on Saturday, February 23, 2008. The objective was to clear a ten-foot wide swath through overgrown fields and woods. There was a lot of work to be done, and the team came ready to meet the challenge. There was a lot of sawing trees and clearing brush. A donated skid loader was very helpful in clearing most of the big brush, but there were a lot of little stubs that had to be cleaned up and the larger trees that needed to be cut and cleared. This cleared path will soon become the Wam-Sag-Man trail leading between Wamego, St. George, and Manhattan. It is a great alternative for cyclists as well as pedestrians for getting exercise off of the main highways. All in all, the club contributed 16 hours of service that was greatly appreciated. Hopefully there can be several more chances to help out the community.

Road Cycling Season Ends With Nationals

The course was rough, the day hot, and the pace fast for cyclists at this year's Road Nationals in Lawrence, KS. The men's time trial team of Mark Smelser, Brad Sullivan, Rich Shurtz and Chad Clark kicked events off on Friday as they competed against the best collegiate teams across the nation. The Wildcats placed 16th among the 23 Division I teams participating. For Saturday's road race around Perry Lake, things would not get better for many teams. Due to flooding on the original route, officals decided to reroute the course over a 2 mile stretch of gravel road which caused more flat tires than the support vehicles could handle. [more]

KSU Cycling Gains New Sponsor

KSU Cycling President Gerald Hart accepts the sponsorship from SAIC's Michael Czaja, Special Operations Curriculum Designer and InstructorKansas State University Cycling has gained another important sponsor in Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). The sponsorship deal was entirely the work of team member Chad Clark, a Lieutenant Colonol in the U.S. Army and PhD candidate at the Leavenworth Campus of Kansas State University. Through his work in the military, Chad has forged a great working relationship with SAIC. The company also works closely with Kansas State on many projects through the Leavenworth Campus which further increased interest in becoming a major sponsor of the team. With this sponsorship the team will be able to offset costs of jerseys and traveling expenses to future races in the mountain bike and cyclocross seasons.
