Network Systems Analyst/Network Specialist
Description
Kansas State University is seeking a Network Systems Analyst/Network Specialist to assist the networking team in the areas of design, modification, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of a large enterprise network. This position will include both design and management responsibilities for Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Networking design, modification, maintenance, and documentation of a large enterprise network.
- Support the enterprise network at Kansas State using best practices to maintain a production environment 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Provide support in the design of the campus network, with emphasis on network firewall design and maintenance. Provide documentation so other IT staff can assist with maintenance/support.
- Configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Cisco switches and routers in routed LAN/WAN environments.
- Configure and install Cisco switches and routers to support the needs of the university community. Troubleshoot existing infrastructure as needed, and take corrective actions to eliminate problems as they occur.
- Network monitoring and tuning.
- Monitor network utilization and make recommendations for future growth to eliminate potential bottlenecks before they occur.
- Assist the Network team in traffic optimization, including QoS, multicast, and other technologies.
- Evaluate and recommend new and evolving network technologies.
- Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations when they are applicable in supporting the university's mission.
- Assist with securing campus IT resources and responding to security incidents.
- Work with the IT Security Office in responding to security incidents.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Associate degree plus three years of relevant experience.
- A minimum of three years of experience in designing and managing large, enterprise-scale networks, with an emphasis on network security.
- Demonstrated ability in the configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless service modules.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience.
- A minimum of three years experience in design, implementation, and management of a large enterprise Cisco-based network, with specific experience on the Cisco Catalyst 6500, 4500, PIX, ASA, FWSM, and WiSM platforms.
- Demonstrated ability in the design and maintenance of 802.11 wireless networks
- Experience with project and change management practices
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
