We are conducting a survey of deans, department heads and directors asking for their methods of handling parental leave. Once this has been completed, we are going to work to develop a policy that can be applied consistently campus-wide for all employees needing parental leave.
Since it's been several years since K-State women were asked for input on their priorities and needs, we're in the process of setting up a focus group of about 20 people from a cross-section of campus to gather information. We will then develop a survey to send to a sample of the campus population. Once this is complete, we will work with President Schulz to reevaluate our mission and charge to ensure that it is in line with the current campus needs.
We are working with the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition to create spaces across the Manhattan and Salina campuses for women to breastfeed or pump in private.
The Women's Center at K-State has a goal of making Aggieville safer for women. Mary Todd, Director, has met with the Manhattan City Commission to work on ideas for improving security on the streets and in the businesses in Aggieville. We are hoping to assist Mary Todd in increasing awareness of this effort and finding solutions.
The fliers near the sinks in campus restrooms are an ongoing project of the PCSW. We are always open for ideas on the subjects and designs of these fliers, and help is needed regularly to replace fliers with newer topics.
