AVAILABILITY OF PSYCHIATRIC CONSULTATIONS
Services Changing Beginning July 2009
Psychiatric Resources in Manhattan, KS Beginning July 2009, the Counseling Services at Kansas State University will no longer have psychiatric consultation on staff. However, psychiatric services are available in the community and our therapists will coordinate with these resources when needed. Here is a list of some providers in the community. If you have questions about this list of resources or other related concerns, you are welcome to contact the Counseling Services at 785-532-6927.
Coordination with the student's physician/psychiatrist: A student may already have a prescribing physician/psychiatrist or may need referral to a physician at Lafene Student Health, or to a physician/psychiatrist in the off-campus community. When a student is in contact at the K-State Counseling Service and coordination is needed between the therapist and the student's physician/psychiatrist, the student will be asked to sign an authorization form. This would allow the student's physician/psychiatrist to share pertinent medical and treatment information and, in turn, would allow the client's CS therapist to share with that physician the student's treatment plan, medication recomendation, and progress as needed. In such cases, only the information pertinent to the treatment process and management of the medication (including the diagnois) would be shared.
How records are kept of contact with the consultant: All contact with the consultant and any written records regarding a consultation will be a part of the client's CS file and are treated confidentially.
For further details, please speak with a CS counselor.
