K-State Offers Culture Classes for 2018

The K-State Confucius Institute is offering a series of one hour Chinese culture classes this semester on Fridays from 3-4 pm in Seaton 1063 (except for Tai Chi will be on the Quad in near Waters Hall). These classes will give participants a chance to explore Chinese ink painting, paper-cutting, origami, calligraphy, tai chi, opera mask painting, and so on. Classes are free and open to anyone at K-State and the greater Manhattan community. Those interested may sign up for any number of classes. K-State Confucius Institute 2018 Summer Trip to China for College Students

The Confucius Institute is pleased to sponsor this summer trip to China for students in Kansas state from May 28th to June 10th, 2018.  This annual trip has been a success for the past two years and all the participants spoke highly about the trip. The trips in past two years were for educators; however, because of the success of the trips and the increasing influence of Confucius Institute, this year the Confucius Institute is sponsoring a student trip. The purpose of this trip is to provide students with an opportunity to experience Chinese culture. Participants will attend some Chinese culture classes, visit a number of historically famous and scenic spots in Beijing, Shanghai and Changchun (a major city in Northeast China) as well as experience different regional flavors from local restaurants in these cities. Participants will also be able to interact with Jilin university students during the trip. The Confucius Institute’s Chinese partner Jilin University in Changchun will make local arrangements.

The Confucius Institute will cover most of the expenses of the trip (hotel, meals, transportation, entrance fees to most tourist attractions, etc.). The participants only needs to pay for the round-trip airfare between the US and China, insurance, the visa application fee, and a ticket for the circus in Shanghai (optional). this is a first come first serve opportunity. 

The trip will last for 14 days. Please see the itinerary for more details. Participation in the program is voluntary and is limited to 20 people.

The Kansas State University Confucius Institute is pleased to sponsor a summer trip to China for K-12 superintendents, principals, administrators, teachers, and other Kansas school educators from June 12th to June 25th, 2018. The purpose of the trip is to provide educators in K-12 education an opportunity to learn about the Chinese education system and culture and to share their experiences with their Chinese counterparts. Participants will visit a number of Chinese K-12 schools and universities in both the Chinese capital of Beijing, Shanghai and Changchun (a major city in Northeast China) as well as tourist attractions in all three cities. The Confucius Institute’s Chinese partner Jilin University in Changchun will make the local arrangements. Chinese Culinary Workshop for Hands-on Practice and Food Safety Improvement.

This is a pilot Chinese culinary workshop highlights the local Chinese restaurant chef to give you a hands-on practice to make your own delicious dishes. It also serves as a fun and relax occasion to learn and improve food safety knowledge from the inspectors of Kansas Department of Agriculture and socialize with people may have the same interest with you.

Confucius Institute

K-State launched its Confucius Institute in April 2015 in partnership with China's Jilin University and Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters).  The CI's mission is to promote, enhance and elevate understanding of the Chinese language and culture and to create exchanges between U.S. and Chinese academic institutions and communities. To that end, we 

  • offer practical and fun Chinese classes for both adults and children, including parent & child classes
  • organize a wide variety of cultural activities, such as cultural performances, Chinese cooking workshops, and the annual Chinese Culture Fair
  • sponsor academic and cultural exchange programs
  • provide information and consultative services related to China's culture, economy and businesses.
