Thursday, March 16, 2000
K-State Student Union Room 207
9:00 a.m.

Present: Burtis, Caffey, Dean, DeVault for Foster, Donnelly, Elsea, Fenton, Pannbacker, Roberts, Rowlett, Selfridge

Guests: Jim Goddard, Chair of the College of Engineering's Course and Curriculum Committee and Loren Wilson, Division of Continuing Education

Rowlett and Selfridge opened the meeting at 9:05 a.m.

Approval of the February Minutes
Roberts suggested that the February minutes note discussion regarding appropriate college representatives in the committee make-up. It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes as corrected.  Motion passed.

Introduction of New Committee Members
Candace Pannbacker from the College of Education and Jackie Dean from the College of Technology and Aviation were introduced. It was also noted that Kevin Donnelly from the College of Agriculture has replaced Larry Erpelding on the committee.

Review of the Draft Flow Chart for New Courses
Selfridge reported that a subcommittee met and created a flowchart for new courses which will be put on the Course and Curriculum Information Tracking System website (http://www.ksu.edu/committees/ccits) for committee review. It was suggested that perhaps it would be more appropriate to first tackle a flowchart for course changes since course changes occur more frequently than new courses.

Demonstration of the Credit Course Worksheet Application for Continuing Education Courses
Loren Wilson reported that the Division of Continuing Education has developed an application that in theory is ideal but has a lot of bugs. DCE is in the process of releasing their first patch. Wilson proceeded with the demonstration. Some discussion was held. Donnelly also demonstrated the College of Agriculture's electronic system and provided the address for the committee to visit (http://intranet.oznet.ksu.edu/in_accc). To enter the site, the userid is ccc and the password is discuss.

Review the Goals and Objectives of the Project
Roberts commented that if the length of time necessary for the discussion and voting process as it was described by Donnelly in the College of Agriculture's electronic system is longer than the current 10 day maximum allowed with the green sheets, the system may be in direct conflict with the committee's objective to decrease the amount of time to process proposals. Selfridge suggested that initial steps in the process could possibly take more time; however, the amount of time for the whole process could be shortened. It was also suggested that the benefit from an electronic system may not be in replacing faculty dialog but in the accuracy and convenience of reporting.

Caffey indicated that this project has not been funded. Selfridge asked the committee to consider putting together a proposal and submitting it to the Provost. The committee will discuss a proposal at the next meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 10:40.
