    Minutes were approved

K-State Web Accessibility Statement of Intent
The statement of intent will be linked to the K-State accessibility web page: http://www.ksu.edu/tools/access/. The statement will read as follows. "It is the intent of Kansas State University to ensure that University web pages are accessible and usable by all people including those with disabilities. K-state web sites are required to comply with the Federal government's Section 508 guidelines, and the Sate of Kansas Web Site Accessibility Guidelines by March 31, 2002. K-State's Web Site Accessibility Committee is in the process of developing and implementing a university wide plan to achieve this goal".

For questions about compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, notify:
    Jane Rowlett, ADA Coordinator
    204 Anderson Hall
    Kansas State University
    Manhattan KS 66506

    jrowlet@ksu.edu

Discussion ensued about providing accessibility information beyond text only on the K-State home page.

    Scope of Accessibility Mandate
The committee will maintain an updated list of the organizations that fall under the compliance mandate and those that do not. The decision will be determined by the answer to a few simple questions:

    1. Are the employees of the organization K-State employees?
    2. Does the organization serve students?
    3. Is the organization sanctioned by K-State?
An affirmative answer to any of the above means that K-State is responsible for the compliance of these organizations.

    pliance mandate: Athletic Department

Do not fall under compliance mandate: Alumni Association, Credit Union and the Union

The accessibility of software was discussed. Of note is that the federal government cannot purchase software that is not accessible. With proprietary software, the committee has no control over these systems. Jane pointed out that it is important to remember our focus, which includes academic departments and unit web pages.

    Implementation Plan and Details
Janelle shared an overall implementation plan with the committee. It was decided that the second sentence of the plan would be amended to read, "Units will be asked to demonstrate the compliance of their web pages. For bullets #2 & 3, the term web coordinator will be changed to DRR. Bullet #4 will read, "The state deadline is March 31, 2002".
