Questions about CNS policies and procedures should be sent to cns@k-state.edu.

K-State IT policies apply to the use of CNS resources, as do all applicable K-State policies and procedures and all federal, state, and local laws.

For assistance with IT at K-State, call the IT Help Desk,

The Internet and World Wide Web Page Policy is K-State's official web policy. The K-State homepage is at www.ksu.edu, and the site is administered by Computing and Network Services.

Many web-publishing tools for K-State web authors are at www.ksu.edu/tools.

    Official web space

Space for official K-State webpages can be obtained by filling out the Registration Form for Official K-State Webpages form.

    Personal webpages

Every K-Stater may have a personal webpage. See www-personal.ksu.edu for details.

    Personal web-publishing quota

Extremely popular personal webpages have the capability of overloading the K-State servers and their network connections to such an extent that they become paralyzed. To control this, a usage limit is set based on a daily tally for each K-Stater consisting of the sum of two numbers:
    • the number of times any of the K-Stater's pages is requested times 500.
    • the total number of bytes transmitted by the web server on the K-Stater's behalf.

The tally can be thought of as the number of bytes transmitted. The page-request overhead is approximately 500 bytes.

If the tally exceeds 20 megabytes for a K-Stater in a given day, access to that K-Stater's pages is disabled. People attempting to access any of those pages after they have been disabled will receive a page that describes the situation and tells them to try again later. The tally will be reset to zero daily between midnight and 8 a.m., and access to all pages will be enabled for the next day.

    Calendar pages

The K-State website provides a way to publish event information in a centralized manner which provides several advantages:
    1. Calendars are in a consistent format.
    2. Calendars from several sources can be integrated into one combined calendar.
    3. A familiar calendar navigation aid is placed at the top of every calendar.
    4. Calendars are linked from a central location, so people can find your calendar easily.

These calendars are at www.ksu.edu/calendar. From the K-State homepage, you can reach the calendars by selecting the "Calendar" link.

For details about entering calendar data, see www.ksu.edu/tools/calendars.
