Questions about CNS policies and procedures should be sent to cns@k-state.edu.

K-State IT policies apply to the use of CNS resources, as do all applicable K-State policies and procedures and all federal, state, and local laws.

For assistance with IT at K-State, call the IT Help Desk,
785-532-7722,
helpdesk@k-state.edu.

External newsgroups

CNS maintains a Usenet news server (nntp.ksu.edu) for the K-State campus. All newsgroups carried on the K-State server are available for reading and posting to all valid K-State computer users.

New newsgroups are added to the K-State Usenet news server when all of the following criteria are met:

  1. A K-Stater requests the addition of the newsgroup.
  2. The newsgroup does not contain illegal content (for example, child pornography).
  3. K-State receives an article posted to that newsgroup.

The latter restriction helps prevent the proliferation of bogus newsgroups.

Local newsgroups

Usenet newsgroups which exist solely on the K-State Unix servers because they are not propagated to adjacent new servers may be established for purposes consistent with the university's missions. These groups should be considered an alternative to LISTSERV mailing lists as a mechanism for class-related discussions.
