CNS's emphasis on technology infrastructure is reflected in
its two divisions: Infrastructure Services and Support Services.
- CNS Infrastructure Services
This division provides hardware, operating system, and system services support for the
enterprise-wide servers. It contains these sections:

Jay Alloway, manager and acting CNS associate director
Provides hardware and operating system support for the IBM S/390
Enterprise Server (a.k.a. the mainframe) running VM and MVS and a host of
Sun Microsystems servers running the Solaris operating system (i.e.,
Unix). Manages K-State's central servers that provide e-mail, the World
Wide Web (official pages and personal pages), authentication (i.e., eIDs), DNS, Unix accounts,
the K-State Digital Library, K-State Online, human resources, student records, and many other services.

Neil Erdwien, manager and acting CNS associate director
Maintains the central K-State website at www.k-state.edu
and related sites such as eid.k-state.edu,
courses.k-state.edu, search.k-state.edu, and
antivirus.k-state.edu. Researches and implements new web-based technologies.
Responsibilities include the online versions of the course schedules and Undergraduate Course Catalog; the
Calendars section; the Directories databases; and the Tools for Web Publishing.
Provides news about CNS activities and other IT infrastructure initiatives
to the K-State campus. With iTAC, publishes the InfoTech Tuesday
newsletter. Manages the CNS website at www.k-state.edu/cns/.

Royce Gilbert, manager
Provides and maintains Local Area Network servers running Novell Netware
and Microsoft server operating systems for K-State's university computing labs, the K-State InfoCommons, CNS, and
numerous administrative and academic departmentsl. Researches and
implements new LAN-based technologies. Provides system administration for
computer labs in K-State's residence halls, the Athletic Learning Center,
and the English, Biology, and Statistics departments. Is deploying resources to create more regional
LAN environments to meet the growing demand for standardized, reliable
instructional and administrative environments.

Tony Donnelly, manager and CNS associate director
Researches new IT developments and leads new K-State IT initiatives.
Provides technical support for K-State projects that have a
university-wide impact and are finite in duration, such as the Year 2000 Challenge
and the Enterprise Help Desk software deployment.
- CNS Support Services
This division provides business and operational support not only to the
infrastructure units in CNS, but also to many departments and offices on
campus. It contains these sections:

Anthony Phillips, manager
Provides local, cost-effective technology repair services for campus
departments and offices. Repairs
computers, monitors, and printers. Builds custom computer systems
(desktops and servers) for unique needs. Upgrades existing computers;
installs and configures software; and installs and configures network
operating systems such as Novell Netware and Microsoft 2000/2003. Provides
installation and maintenance support for technology in K-State's
multimedia classrooms.

Gloria Robertson, manager
Provides around-the-clock operational support of the IBM Enterprise server
(mainframe) and Sun Unix servers in K-State's IT Data Center. Runs jobs submitted by academic and
administrative programmers and users, performs systems backups, and
handles volumes of reports printed each day. Performs
daily checks and preventative maintenance on K-State's university
computing labs, InfoCommons, and technology classrooms. As the campus help-desk concept
develops into reality, will work closely with iTAC to handle problem
reports and IT support calls in the evenings and weekends after iTAC's
help desk closes.

Provides office and business services for CNS and iTAC. Responsible for
office services, accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting,
purchasing, inventory, personnel, licenses and contracts, and making sure
the director doesn't get himself into trouble. :-)

Many guidelines, procedures, and processes are in place for using the central computing facilities.
These include the Unix and IBM systems, e-mail servers (such as WebMail), the central website, and LISTSERV mailing lists.
