I was born in Santa Fe, NM and have lived in Kansas City, KS; Columbus, OH and Council Grove, KS before finally moving to Manhappiness in 1982. I graduated from Manhattan High in 1990 ('90 Rocks!). My parents thought I was destined to be a career college student until I graduated in 1998 from the KSU Social Sciences program with a Bachelor of Science degree (significant business course electives). My husband, James Owensby, is a Manhattan native and works for the KSU Vet Med Teaching Hospital. We have 2 lovely boys (on most days) whom their grandfather, Clenton Owensby (Agronomy Professor in Range Management) loves to corrupt. I guess you could say we are a Manhattan & K-State family through-and-through. Prick us and we will bleed PURPLE!!!
Student Employee, KSU College of Engineering 1990-1994; Office Assistant III, KSU Controller's Cashier's Office 1995-1996; Accounting Specialist, KSU Office of Student Activities & Services 1996-1999; Accountant II, KSU Controller's General Acctg 1999-2000; Accountant II, KSU Vet Med Teaching Hospital 2000; Accountant I, KSU Office of Student Activities & Services 2000-2004; Business Manager (unclassified), KSU Vet Med Teaching Hospital 2004-2005; Accountant II, KSU Controller's Office Main Office 2005-Present . . . and I'm staying put!
Not getting fired. So far, so good. I enjoy my family and try to be a good parent (on most days). I traveled all over the United States and did some international travel when I was younger. I would like to travel with my family, but there is no room in the family budget for it at the present time. Other than that, my life revolves around my children's schedules.
I think the next few years will be really important for classified employees. I am looking forward to serving on Classified Senate and would enjoy hearing from you. Please let me know if you have any suggestions of ways to improve life on campus for classified employees.
