Notes from the June 6, 2007 Classified Senate Meeting

The following new Officers were installed for the 2007-2008 senate year:

Gary Leitnaker, HR, reported that the new payroll plan goes into effect June 17, 2007 with a 2% increase. A bonus of $860.00 will be issued to all classified employees in the December 14, 2007 pay check. Longevity bonus has increased to $50.00 per eligible year with a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $1250.00. The new pay plan is available at: http://www.k-state.edu/hr/forms/CES.PDF (pdf)

Below is a listing of the current vacancies on University Committees, if you would be interested in being on any of these committees please contact the senate president so your name may be forwarded as a nominee. If chosen, you will be later contacted by the office which the committee reports to (VPAF, Provost, President). Feel free to nominate yourself for any of these committees. You may also nominate yourself for more than one. If you would like more information on these committees either contact me or the current committee chair.   • Council on Parking Operations: 1 name is needed
  • Commission on Status of Women: 4 names are needed
  • Peer Review Committee: 10 names are needed

The Kansas Council of Classified Senates annual meeting will be hosted by Kansas State University on June 18, 2007 at the KSU Alumni Center. A unified position paper will be drafted to send to the Kansas legislature which briefly states points of interest & concern on behalf of classified employees from the Board of Regent's schools. This position paper will be made available in July on the senate listserv.

The Classified Employee Recognition Ceremony was a huge success. Congratulations to all those classified employees who received awards for years of service, retirement or as employees of the year. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Alternative Service Committee (ASC) is now a University Committee reporting to Dr. Rawson. Communication with classified employees about the issue of alternative civil service is a top priority to the committee. Currently communication with the committee can be done through e-mail at: altserv@ksu.edu. Development of a web-page is in progress. This web page will be used to keep the classified employees abreast of the committee's work, post meeting minutes, and provide a question and answer section. The committee members are: Barbara Nagel (Chair), Carol Marden (Secretary), Paula Connors, Kristi Fronce, Janel Harder, Janelle Harris, Melissa Linenberger, Roger McBride, Jennyfer Owensby, Cyreathia (Sam) Reyer, Lois Schreiner, Marlene Walker, John Wolf, Terri Wyrick, Nick Pecenka, Lori Goetsch ( Dean of Libraries/ex-officio non-voting), Gary Leitnaker (Asst VP HR/ex-officio non-voting) and Bruce Shubert (Assoc VP Admin & Finance/ex-officio non-voting).

Senate Committees for 2007-2008 are:

  • Campus Affairs: co-chaired by Becki Bohnenblust & Joe Meyers
  • Legislative Affairs: co-chaired by Connie Kissee & Marlene Walker
  • Public Relations: co-chaired by Melissa Linenberger & Lois Schreiner
  • Recognition Ceremony: co-chaired by Tracy Ivy & Peggy Selvidge
