Matt Wagner, Student Body President gave a report to Senate on the activities of the Student Senate which included the Rec Center expansion, a financial planning center, dead week policy, textbooks online, Thanksgiving break, state issues involving Big 12 Day on the Hill, good neighbors program to foster relations between students and community members, campus recycling program, email system issues, and sustainability resources. Meeting agendas and minutes have been shared between Classified Senate and Student Senate this year to share information and foster communications.
Gary Leitnaker, HR, reported that the classified employees bonus of $860 will be reflected in the December 14th paycheck. Joe Younger in HR Benefits has retired. Questions regarding benefits can be directed to Elizabeth or RJ in the interim.
Classified leave enhancement has been approved by the Regents COBO (Council of University Business Officers) and COPS (Council of University Presidents). KBOR will have this as an agenda item for January. The Kansas Council of Classified Senates is working with the KBOR in establishing a Regents representative council for the Regents Classified Senates.
The Campus Affairs Committee had no report.
The Legislative Affairs Committee passed out the final draft of the by-laws, but a quorum was not present so no action was taken. Legislative Day will be February 4 & 5. Packets for classified attendees are being put together and appointments with legislators are being scheduled. Sue Peterson, Assistant to the President and Director of Governmental Relations is working on getting a classified employee appointed to the Commission recommended by the Hay Group as part of the new pay plan implementation. She is also working with Neville Kenning from the Hay Group to come to K-State to make a presentation to the classified employees about the new pay plan recommendations made.
The Recognition Ceremony Committee reported that the Employee of the Year Nomination Process survey results will be discussed at the next Recognition Ceremony committee meeting. Twenty departments have responded to the letter regarding input from Directors, Deans, and Department Heads on their process for selecting their Employee of the Year. Results will be compiled and shared with Senate at the January meeting.
The Public Relations Committee had no report. Suggestions for classified employees to spotlight in the ROAR are needed.
The Kansas Council of Classified Senates resolution has been finalized and is being printed. After signatures from each Regent Classified Senate President have been acquired the resolution will be distributed to the Governor, Lt. Governor, State Senators and Representatives, KBOR members, Regents University Presidents, Regents Classified Senate Presidents, Regents Faculty Senate Presidents, and Regents Student Senate Presidents.
Under new business it was discussed why a classified representative was not present on the search committees for the Project Coordinator and Director of Resources positions in Facilities. A letter has been sent to Ed Rice from Senate President Nagel concerning this matter. Also discussed under new business was the Unclassified Limited Retirement Health Care Bridge.
