David Weitz is the Mallinckrodt professor of physics and applied physics at Harvard University. Free and open to the public. Part of the James R. Finding Mama In Academia: An Examination of the Impact of Black Female Professors on the Success of Black Students by Tosha Sampson-Choma. Noon, Hemisphere Room, Hale Library. Sampson-Choma's current study involves an ethnographic approach to understanding the impact of black female instructors on their students. While the project is in an early stage, it will undoubtedly contribute to the current research on the retention of students of color at predominantly white institutions.

Hammond is the author of "A White Collar Profession," and will discuss the underrepresentation of African-Americans in the rise of the accounting profession. In addition, she will discuss the history behind this statistic and some of the challenges faced by minorities in entering the field, as well as some of the strategies used that enabled African-Americans to become CPAs.
