Exhibit: Discover the Hyer Boot Company. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., William T. Kemper Art Gallery, K-State Student Union. Credited as the first to invent the cowboy boot, Charles Hyer, along with his brother Edward, founded the Hyer Boot Company in 1880 after moving to Olathe, Kan., in 1872. The exhibit, created by the Kansas Historical Society, features many examples of Hyer products..
CES Backyard BBQ. 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Holtz Hall Lawn. K-State students can meet with their career advisor, activate and update their free online student account, which allows them to search on and off-campus listings, and learn about the services and activities offered by Career and Employment Services. Presentation: The Art and Science of Teaching by Bryce H. Lane. 3 to 4 p.m., Little Theatre, K-State Student Union. Bryce Lane, a much-decorated undergraduate teacher at North Carolina State University and host of an Emmy-winning TV show, will give a presentation which will answer the question: What is great teaching? A Q&A session will follow the presentation. Free and open to the public. Hirschowitz Chair of Gastroenterology and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and a professor in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The son of Henrietta Lacks, David "Sonny" Lacks, and another Lacks family member will add their voices to the remarkable history documented in Rebecca Skloot's book. Community Cultural Harmony Week Awards and Luncheon. Noon to 1:30 p.m., Cottonwood Room, K-State Student Union. Presentation of the Peace Awards and Joey Lee Garmin Scholarship. Those wishing to dine may purchase lunch through the K-State Union Bluemont Buffet and bring their plate to the Cottonwood Room where glasses and tableware will be provided. Noon to 5 p.m., September 8 through October 6, Manhattan Arts Center, 1520 Poyntz Ave. Exhibition explores and presents Indian designs, colors, patterns, dimensions of proportion and scale.
