Sangram Majumdar thinks of his paintings as conversations between the notion of the familiar and the questions it raises through the medium of painting. - Spencer Lecture: Polynomial Functors in Homotopy Theory by Nicholas Kuhn. 2:30 p.m., 1018, Throckmorton Hall. Kuhn is from the University of Virginia. Lecture abstract: The calculation of the homotopy groups of a topological space is notoriously difficult. By contrast, homology groups are much easier to calculate because they satisfy the nice Meyer-Vietoris decomposition rule. Free and open to the public.

Leung is from the the Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The lecture will explain the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow proposal which explains mirror symmetry via Fourier type transformation along Lagrangian fibrations as well as recent progress on the SYZ proposal.
