Exhibition: Konza: Sculpture by John Powers. July 9, 2012 through May 31, 2013, Beach Museum of Art. Konza is a large kinetic sculpture inspired by the natural beauty and movement of the nearby Konza prairie, and is the newest addition to the Beach Museum of Art's permanent collection. Exhibit: Inadvertent Arson: Paintings and Drawings by Patrick Duegaw. October 5, 2012 through January 13, 2013 Beach Museum of Art. Patrick Duegaw, K-State alumnus and founding member of Wichita's Fisch Haus artist cooperative, presents the latest installment of his ongoing "Painted Theater Project." Conceived as a theatrical performance, Duegaw's "Inadvertent Arson" incorporates painted portraits, props, and sets as surrogates for living actors, three-dimensional objects, and a stage. Action is implied instead of performed, and a dialogue appears in the form of artist-generated text that accompanies each portrait.

Martin Luther King "Day On" Open House. 10 a.m. to noon, Beach Museum of Art. The Beach offers a special viewing from the permanent collection of objects created by a diverse range of artists that express themes of cultural identity from the permanent collection. This event is free but we request a food donation for the Flint Hills Breadbasket.

The Rosa Parks Story. 1 to 3 p.m., Beach Museum of Art. Honoring the 100th anniversary of the birthday of American civil Rights Movement pioneer Rosa Parks (February 4), we present a free screening of the Emmy-nominated movie "The Rosa Parks Story", starring Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett and directed by noted filmmaker Julie Dash. The film will be preceded and followed by brief discussions in the UMB Theatre.

Homeschool Tuesdays. 1 to 2:30 p.m., Beach Museum of Art. Held the first and last Tuesday of the month, these free classes are expanded versions of the ARTSmart classes and similar to our school tour offerings. Classes will be split by age so that older children may participate in more challenging discussion and activities. Younger children will participate in games or story time activities.

Experience the wonder and variety of the visual world a we explore the many collections of K-State through the Museum of Wonder exhibition. Valentines Workshop for Adults. 6:30 to 8 p.m., Beach Museum of Art. Come alone (to make your cards in secret!), bring some friends, or make it a date. We will have all the supplies you need to make Valentines. Reservations required. $10 per person, $7.50 for members.

Annual Family Valentines Workshop. 1:30 to 3 p.m., Beach Museum of Art. All the lace, ribbon and bling you need to create handmade Valentines, plus refreshments. This is a great chance for families to have fun together. $5 per child, $3 members, reservations are not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
