Resume guide: References
You may place References upon request at the bottom of your resume, but it is understood that they are available, so this is an option.
- Prepare a separate list of references, on stationery matching your résumé and cover letter, with your name at the top of the page.
- Include contact name, title, organization/company name, address, phone number (usually business) and possibly email.
- Sources for references may include employers, extracurricular advisors, college professors, or administrators. Three to five references is adequate.
- References should have direct knowledge of your work: academic, paid or volunteer.
- Always ask permission to use someone as a reference. Send them a copy of your resume to remind them of your experience, and advise them when you are closing on a position.
