Advice from employers

Representatives from the CES Employer Advisory Board offer you the following words of encouragement and advice.
"K-State continues to provide some of the most talented graduates in our organization. Company internships continue to be an important aspect of securing a position after graduation. Be sure to do the things that will get you recognized like being a campus or organizations leader, maintaining a solid GPA, and most importantly networking with thecorporate recruiters throughout the year. The corporate recruiters can be your best resource for landing an Internship or full-time offer."
John O'Hara, Supervisor, Commercial Card Services
ConocoPhillips
"ConocoPhillips is extremely pleased with the engineers we have hired from KSU. Current students should recognize that Internships are becoming a preferred avenue to full-time employment. Students should also be working to set themselves apart from their peers - taking on a leadership position on campus, maintaining a top GPA, and establishing themselves as a well-rounded individual in preparation for our Fall interviews."
Dave Beardmore, Principal Drilling Engineer
ConocoPhillips
Even in tough economic times like we are experiencing today, companies understand the value of their associates, and are still hiring strong talent that will help move their business forward. Keep a positive outlook, be persistent, and don’t give up! Networking and building relationships is key at this time. Although you may not get hired at the company you were aiming for, you never know when they might have a position open up, so make a good memorable impression now so you will be remembered in the future! Good Luck!
Gretchen Farr, College Relations Recruiter
Garmin Internaional
"During these difficult economic times it is the job applicant that goes the extra mile by showing flexibility in all employment options and by positively differentiating themselves from all the other candidates that will be successful."
Clark Ingram, Vice President of Human Resources
GTM Sportwear
"Remember, there will always be good jobs for good people. By that, make sure the companies you are looking into are a "fit" of what you want and value from an employer. Just don't narrow your search to those companies who come onto campus. Your full time job right now is the career search, look for opportunities in some unusual ways!"
Ann Richardson, Central Area Recruiter
Sherwin-Williams
"BE PREPARED to manage every point of contact with prospective employers and focus on what value you can offer. With a limited number of openings, most employers will be highly selective in their talent search."
Steve Green, Talent Acquisition Manager, Vice President
State Street Corporation
"In a challenging economic time like this, it's important to remember two things. Be sure that you don't give up on the career search, the employers that are hiring are attending campus events looking to talk to you! Also, don't become complacent and willing to take anything...an employer doesn't want to hear that you will take any job available. We are trying to assess your skills to determine if we have the RIGHT opening for you. We have filled many of our openings for the year, but continue to interview in case we have more trainee positions open up for the fall timeframe. Keep a positive attitude and put the effort forward and you have a much better chance of finding the right job for you!"
