CECD, ICDD and RGI Staff and Student Update
The Center for Engagement and Community Development moved its offices to Nichols 324 in mid-July. The move went well and the CECD staff and students are enjoying the new space.
We are pleased to introduce our new project coordinator and digital media student intern and highlight our returning students.
Tina Khan is the newly hired project coordinator for the Rural Grocery Initiative. CECD was recently awarded a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation as the result of a proposal from Director David Procter titled “The Kansas Healthy Food Access Initiative.” “The RGI is the partner that ensures communities are able to sustain and support their local foods,” said Tina. “I’m excited to begin collaborating across the state and planning how we can best serve Kansas food needs.”
Alexis Kokenge is a junior majoring in marketing and accounting. She is currently interviewing for summer internships in accounting. She is from Topeka, Kan., and began this summer as the digital media intern. In her free time, Alexis enjoys dancing and spending time with family and friends.
Wynnette Sommerfeld is a senior studying human resource management. She is also getting a dual degree from Manhattan Christian College, where she is studying bible and leadership and plays volleyball. Wynnette stayed in Manhattan and worked over the summer for CECD and is continuing this fall as the social media intern. She is from Newton, Kan., and enjoys spending time with friends and playing sports in her free time.
Kolia Souza is a returning graduate research assistant for the Rural Grocery Initiative. Kolia is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Community Development. She also holds a master’s degree in architecture and two bachelor’s degrees in textiles and interior design. Kolia is from Junction City, Kan. She has two daughters, Paris, 13, and Isabella, 9. When she’s not taking care of her daughters, Kolia enjoys cooking and gardening.
Maggie Stanton is a senior majoring in mass communications and minoring in communication studies. She is from Overland Park, Kan. and is returning as CECD’s feature writing intern. Maggie will continue to create news blasts and report on university engagement. If the weather is pleasant, you'll find her running on the Konza trail. If it's raining, snowing, or otherwise, she'll be starting a Netflix marathon.
