Creative & Effective Ways of Evaluating Learning

       Below are the lists of creative and effective ways of evaluating learning that were developed by the Fall 2007 Principles of College Teaching class. The group prioritized five ideas to share with the class as a whole.  If you have questions about any of the listed suggestions, talk with someone in that group. 

 
Group 1:  Sara, Kelly, Kim, Matt, Cristiana

  • using games for reviews (e.g. Jeopardy); have students come up with their own questions

  • have students give an oral demonstration to teach someone else what they have learned

  • give conference-style presentations
  • have students pick a topic they're interested in , bring in in perspectives from other fields, how they are similar, how they differ
  • peer reviews

  • quiz
  • apply class knowledge to something outside the class
  • as student themselves to answer what they had learned
  • ask student to describe lab procedure; they can answer more detail about it
  • presentations
Group 3:  Wade, Neal, Jen, Bethany, Chris
  • students review each others' work
  • group presenation of articles/real world scenarios
  • scavenger hunt for articles
  • case study
  • portfolio of professional quality
