Graduate Assistant

Candidates should have good organizational skills, strong written communication and public speaking skills, experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, and a desire to develop professionally. Previous leadership experience and/or work in career services, advising, or student services is desired. Prefer candidates pursuing master’s degree programs in the College of Education or related field.

Responsibilities
Advising
  • Provide students with individual assistance in defining career options, job searching, developing application materials and employment skills
  • Advise students through appointments, walk-in advising as well as online consultation 
Programming

Facilitate career and job search training through college and university-wide programming

  • Participate in resume critique sessions
  • Plan and facilitate career related workshops
  • Provide presentations to student organizations, classes and living groups
  • Facilitate 1-credit hour career planning class
  • Provide assistance to professional staff on special projects: i.e. special workshops, career fairs, employer development, mock interviews, and new program development 
Administrative
  • Supervise undergraduate student callers to collect post-graduation statistical data
  • Assist in hiring, training, and ongoing development of undergraduate student staff
  • Participate in training sessions, advising meetings, and developmental performance reviews
  • Lead independent projects such as updating program curriculum guides and academic advisor contacts, website updates, or employer follow-up calls
  • Schedule appointments, answer incoming phone calls and assist walk-in guests
  • Other duties as assigned

This position is responsible for helping provide event planning support to at least six career fairs over the course of the academic year.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, coordinating and executing tasks related to upcoming career fairs
  • Assist with administrative tasks which include, but not limited to:
    • Online employer registration approval, posting/receipting registration funds, emailing employer approval packet
    • Producing pre-fair items such as employer welcome packets and student guides
    • Post-fair duties such as invoicing employers, working on budget items and updating database information
  • Correspond with committee members, student volunteers and employers attending the fair
  • Prepare reports for career fair meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
