  • As part of this initiative, K-State will administer ACT’s Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP), a standardized, content test, to 800 1st year students (Fall 2008) and 800 seniors (Spring 2009).
  • The VSA report from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), report from K-State were reviewed.
  • CAAP will be administered to 1st year students in selected classes that will provide a representative sample of K-State students.  Ideas for identifying the sample of senior students and encouraging student participation were discussed – more ideas are needed.

Pending Unfinished Business:

Academic Forgiveness Procedures
College documents for Academic Fresh Start and Reinstatement Procedures were reviewed.  Alison Wheatley will draft a form for Academic Forgiveness to discuss at the next CAPP meeting.

New Business:

New Officers.

Kevin Donnelly distributed the schedule for rotation of officers.  Congratulations to 2008-09 officers:  Lynn Ewanow (AR), chair, and Larry Satzler (EN), secretary.

Adding/Dropping Group Final Exams.

(See draft policy on reverse of agenda.)
An instructor requested to change from a Semester Group Exam to the standard exam time based on class meeting time.  No policy was found that addressed this request.  In response, a policy was drafted for CAPP consideration.

Alison Wheatley moved approval of the policy as presented.  Motion seconded and carried.

Standing Reports:

Academic Affairs/Faculty Senate (Carroll)
  • Faculty Senate:  Fred Fairchild (AG) is the incoming president of Faculty Senate.  Melody LeHew (HE) is the incoming president-elect.
  • FS/AAC:  On May 6 the plagiarism definition developed by an ad hoc committee received first reading.  Action may be taken at the May 20 meeting.  Faculty Senate consideration may occur in June or September.
Registrar (Monty Nielsen)

Electronic undergraduate and graduate catalogs will be available for preview on May 22.  Preview sessions will be held in Little Theater at 11:00 am and 1:30 pm.  The sessions are primarily for those involved in orientation and enrollment but are open to everyone.

Continuing Education (Betty Stevens)

John Allard’s wife has had emergency heart surgery, so he has been juggling trips to Topeka and work.

Educational and Personal Development (Mike Lynch)

Yesterday e-mails were sent to 189 students who have no “Holds” but have not enrolled for Fall 2008 classes.  Thirty responses have been received and about 50% of the students responding thought they had enrolled but may not have completed the enrollment process on iSIS.  Deans’ Offices may hear from some of those students wanting assistance with enrollment.
