Kevin Donnelly called the meeting to order at 10:36 a.m.
The minutes were approved as distributed.
Donnelly announced that Dr. Bosco would not be meeting with us this month but has rescheduled for the April meeting.
The Department of Accounting requested approval of non-standard times for two courses, ACCT 810 (2:30-3:45, MW, fall ’08, ongoing) and ACCT 860 (3:55-5:10, MW, fall ’08, ongoing). The two classes are required for the accounting certificate. If the two can be taught back-to-back, graduate students working full time can take two classes when they are on campus. Katz moved approval. Shanklin seconded the motion. The motion passed.
The Department of Speech Communication, Theatre, and Dance requested approval of a non-standard time for SPCH 734 (2:30-3:45, MW, fall ’08 only). The instructors of the course are debate coaches and their travel schedule interferes with the time the course is normally taught. Pumphrey moved approval. Shanklin seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Donnelly announced that a non-standard time for ART 695 (11:30-12:45, MW, spring ’08, ongoing) was approved by e-mail vote.
Pence distributed the approved version of the final exam policy that was passed by faculty senate.
Considerable discussion occurred regarding dates for granting degrees. Traditionally graduation dates have been in May, August, and December, but these are not official dates. Some would like to have degrees posted more often than three times per year. Shanklin moved that CAPP ask faculty senate to establish official graduation dates for Kansas State University in May, August, and December and place this information in appropriate University catalogs and handbooks. Nielsen seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Nielsen reported that his office has established a timeline and a set of procedures to be followed before entering future curriculum changes into the new electronic catalog (Acalog). By the time the current catalog is replaced, information in it will be approximately two and one-half years old.
Carroll said the report Kelli Cox shared with the committee in February, “Proposed Changes to the Approval, Routing, and Notification Policy for Course and Curriculum Changes” was presented to Faculty Senate as an information item not an action item. Procedures do not have to be approved by Faculty Senate. She said members of the Academic Affairs Committee will meet with the curriculum committees of each college.
Shanklin announced that Educational Testing Service (ETS) does not plan to offer the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) on the K-State campus; however, the University will continue to request that it become a site for this exam.
Meeting adjourned at 12:09 p.m.
