David Delker, Chair, called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.
Math assessment during enrollment session.
Approval for minutes of February 14, 2007 was moved by Ray Hightower and seconded by Fred Fairchild. Motion carried.
A motion was made and approved to move the standing reports to the end of the meeting.
The Non-Standard Class Time document is still being updated for re-approval.
After much discussion a motion was made to revise the catastrophic event description, to manage only one university policy, which incidences should be resolved in each college's dean's office.
It was suggested that the committee revisit the Academic Fresh Start Policy again and bring back a revised, simple version to the next CAPP meeting for continued discussion. A motion was made to refer the issue to the committee for further deliberations. The motion carried.
After much discussion a motion was made to interpret the plagiarism definition by stating the policy as follows: "Plagiarism is intellectual thievery, stealing someone else's creative property or ideas from any type of medium (paper, film or digital form) and claiming it as your own. Plagiarism does not depend on the amount of material stolen and used. Each discipline is responsible for interpreting how this definition is enforced in their field, and for properly informing all students involved with their discipline activities what the recommended procedures are in order to avoid infringing on the rights of others. The only way to use the intellectual or creative product of another without committing plagiarism is to appropriately and accurately acknowledge and/or credit its source"
A motion for approval was made by Ray Hightower and seconded by Mike Perl. The motion carried.
The updated final exam policy was approved in Academic Affairs. It was suggested that the addition of rules for Saturday and Sunday courses be discussed at the next meeting.
It was recommended that a committee review the honors program regarding credit hours and/or equivalent credit statement. CAPP members felt that the policy should have a consistent format campus-wide to complete the university's 8-hour component of the total program. Further guidance is advised regarding this issue in the future.
If Admissions do not receive the out-of-state student's transcripts in time for enrollment, they rely on the student's high school records. We admit the student on the information that we have obtained before they arrive. A student that is admitted with less than a 2.0 GPA would have a provisional enrollment with a requirement to meet certain criteria with possible dismissal if they did not do well.
Engineering may be used in orchestrating a math assessment placement exam that will be available online for students. Testing will be completed to analyze the math assessment process and may be in place next year for student math placement testing.
All faculty are asked not to send student's grades through email. Please call, make an appointment or use K-State Online to post student grades.
Admissions/Financial Aide (Moeder), Academic Affairs (Fairchild), Registrar (Nielsen), Provost Office (Cochran), Continuing Education (Allard) and Educational & Personal Development (Lynch), passed for any further comment.
Future CAPP meetings will start at 10:00 AM on each scheduled Wednesday. All were in favor.
It was recommended that each representative for the standing reports send a brief report for each CAPP meeting electronically to all members before the meeting.
Next meeting will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 11.
Meeting adjourned at 12:00 PM.
