Visitors: Cia Verschelden and Connie Manzo, Office of Assessment; Senior Surveys report

Verschelden discussed the need for more students to complete the senior survey prior to graduation and the content of the survey. A committee reviewed and updated many of the University surveys, including the senior survey. The revised senior survey was sent out to members of CAPP for their input. Pence asked what the purpose of the survey is. Verschelden responded this survey has multiple purposes. It helps with the assessment of student learning and also provides feedback regarding services offered to students. Verschelden distributed a handout with a summary of the comments provided by members of CAPP. Discussion followed regarding the content of the survey. Verschelden would like to see this survey be a part of the graduation application process. Several members commented that the graduation application process is already complicated enough. Suggestions were offered as to when and how to send this survey out to seniors. The current response rate is not more than 50%. They would like to see this much higher. Using the electronic survey system may help remind senior students to complete this survey. Stevens suggested at this time using the graduation application as a trigger to send out an email announcement to the student regarding completing the senior survey. It might be possible for the Office of Assessment to obtain a roster from the Registrar's office of those who have submitted a graduation application. There was a lengthy discussion on how this process should work. Verschelden will contact the Registrar's Office about the logistics of this.
