"Oxidation is a chemical process that has been linked to certain chemical pathways that may cause cancer. As a result, the normal cell has many components called enzymes that will eliminate the reactive species that cause oxidation and subsequent damage to cellular components. We are expressing one of these enzymes, called superoxide dismutase, in cells to develop ways in which cells can better protect themselves from oxidative insult."
