Dr. Max Lu's research

"There are substantial variations in cancer incidence and mortality rates among regions, which cannot be completely accounted for by differences in population characteristics such as age, sex, and race. Identifying the geographic and environmental risk factors that may be responsible for the spatial disparity will help us develop more effective prevention and treatment strategies. My research applies the recently developed techniques in spatial statistics and geographic information systems (GIS) to identify hotspots in cancer incidence and mortality rates and to test hypotheses regarding the effects of various geographic and environmental variables."
