A postdoctoral Research Associate position in the area of Computational Biophysics will be available in the University of Massachusetts Amherst Institute of Applied Life Sciences (IALS), a fast-growing enterprise dedicated to developing the next generation of life science products and technologies to improve human health.

The selected candidate will be expected to be heavily involved in developing GPU-enable implicit solvent methods and performing multi-scale modeling simulations of biomolecules, particularly intrinsically disordered proteins. S/He will also have the opportunity to work on additional projects of mutual interest in the Chen lab. For information on our current research interests and topics, please refer to our group website: http://www.k-state.edu/bmb/labs/jc (note that the Chen Lab is relocating to UMass from Jan 1, 2017 and the group website is to be updated).

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, or a related field
  • Extensive experience with at least one of the major biomolecular modeling packages
  • Published articles in biomolecular modeling and simulation

Successful applicants should also have strong background in scientific computing, CUDA programming, statistical mechanics and display excellent general knowledge and understanding of biophysics, computation and biomolecular modeling. An ideal candidate would be technically competent, with excellent computational skills, and strong programming and scripting ability. S/He should also display exceptional motivation with a passion for science, and the ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a team. Good oral and written communication skills are essential.

Annual compensation will be $45,000/yr or more depending on experience plus benefits. Initial appointments will be for one year with the possibility of renewal up to three years.
